Building History

The Baker Building
The Baker Building has been a figure in the Bloomington, Indiana Community for over 100 years. Located on bustling Walnut Street, this brick building has been home to many shops and offices over the years. It was built in 1890 and has since been rebuilt. However, some original woodwork and decorations remain.

The building is named for IU Alumni and Jacobs School of music professor, David Baker. Baker founded the Jazz Studies program at IU and served as its chair from 1968 to 2013.
